Dr. Jimmy 18

My father subscribed to my college newspaper so that he could read my strips. I thought that was really nice of him. As I recall, this is the only strip he ever commented on. He said he felt the strip was glorifying drugs. He said I should have written it so that I said that taking speed to help you study was a bad thing and drugs are evil. I thought I had done that exactly by being sarcastic. Of course, I didn't tell him how much drugs played in the creation of the strips themselves.

Dr. Jimmy 10

An impudent bull? In the last panel, Dr. Jimmy suggest zapping the President of the university into "an impudent bull." A rude, disrespectful bull? Aren't bulls already characterized as being rude? English was one of my weakest subjects in college. In that panel, I meant to say an impotent bull, meaning a bull that acts tough, but in reality can't get it up.

Dr. Jimmy 9

I went through all my old artwork trying to figure out if I was missing a strip. Where the hell did the ape come from? He seems to be sports related. Did he play for UT? Was he an old friend of Dr. Jimmy's who just happened to be passing by?

Bill Battle was the football coach for Tennessee and Bernard King played basketball for the college at the time of the strip. King was constantly getting into some kind of legal trouble which was probably why he got the three game suspension that Dr. Jimmy talks about. Compared to the crimes committed by college athletes today, the things King did back then seem almost quaint.

Dr. Jimmy 7

Who the hell is David Burnett? I have no idea. I can't remember. Most likely he was an important person in the fraternity system. The joke was that Dr. Jimmy had turned a frat rat into a real rat and I'm guessing that Mr. Burnett was someone everyone on campus would know was in a fraternity.
